- At what age should a child first be seen by an orthodontist?
That depends on you! Do you have a concern right now? Has your family dentist mentioned something that should be checked out? If so, make an appointment and see your orthodontist now.
If you don’t have an immediate concern, but just want to set your mind at rest that no problems are developing, then age 8 is a good age to have your child checked for braces.
Usually, with an 8 year old, your orthodontist will tell you that all is well, and review again in 3 or 6 or 12 months.
Sometimes there are orthodontic interventions that can be carried out early that can make further orthodontic treatment easier, or even unnecessary!
